Every year when it comes around to the holiday season, I look at my bar and think oh crap I need space. Space for holiday cocktails, bar items that I’m sure to get, and whenever some drops by to celebrate and comes with something for me. It’s not a bad problem but one way I’ve learned to deal is to do a clear out before the major season starts. So now you get the benefit of my creation of the random assortment of things that I need to get rid of. This season I have a fourth of a bottle of Sake, just a smidge of rum, a half bottle of pisco, and a bunch of random apple related things. So with a little thought, I created a group of cocktails to use it all up.
Fancy Gimlet Thing
Gimlet
Ingredients
2 oz Sake
3/4 oz Elderflower liqueur
1 1/4 oz Lime juice
1/2 oz Simple syrup
Garnish: Lime Wedge
Recipe: In a cocktail shaker with ice, pour all ingredients. Give it a nice shake and pour into a chilled or not chilled coupe glass. For the lime juice, it is the juice of one lime plus the wedge for decor so just pour the lime juice from the lime. Then when you are ready to cocktail, squeeze in the lime. For the glass, if you like your sake cold definitely chill the glass but if you don’t, don’t chill the glass and keep it at room temperature. As for my snack in the photo, those are some random sour cream and onion lays chip things that I’m also trying to get rid of because snacks also need to go (hello holiday food).
It’s sort of punch
Rum punch
Ingredients (For four cocktails)
1 cup of Rum
1/4 cup of Sour Apple Schnapps
3/4 cup of Apple Cider
1/2 cup of Ginger Ale/Sprite
Recipe: I love a good punch. This apple punch was a two fold situation helping me finish up my apple cider and my rum. It’s a sweet situation that’s perfect for a fall party. In a punch bowl or pitcher, pour ice then rum, sour apple schnapps, and apple cider. If you want an added hit, add in some allspice dram or nut based liqueur. Stir the mixture and then add in the sprite or ginger ale as you like (I prefer less is more). In my cocktail glass, pour the punch over ice. I would drink slowly and also offer extra soda on the side for those people who want to reduce the amount of alcohol and apple flavor.
I’ll Pisco If I want to
Pisco Sour
Ingredients
2 and 1/2 oz Pisco
1 oz Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
Garnish: Lemon Wedge
Recipe: In a cocktail shaker with ice, pour all ingredients. Shake until the shaker is nice and cold. Pour into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a lemon wedge. This is a perfect simple cocktail that’s delightful after a long day. I like that is essentially a sipping cocktail. Something to enjoy while talking through your day or mindlessly watching tv and scrolling social media.
Feeling Very Sour-Tini
Appletini
Ingredients
2 oz Marshmallow Vodka
3/4 oz Sour Apple Schnapps
1 1/2 oz Apple Juice
Garnish: Apple Slice
Recipe: In a cocktail shaker with ice, pour all ingredients. Shake until nice and cold. Pour into a chilled martini or coupe glass. Garnish with an apple slice. This cocktail is a sugary treat! It’s perfect for a cocktail party or an afternoon drink to feel a little festive. I like it as a little escape treat something that appeals to our sweet side but also has a nice punch of alcohol. AKA not for the faint of heart or cocktails.
