Toxic Sister: Bourbon Cocktail with Blackberry

This Whiskey Wednesday has a pretty treat. This purple cocktail is created from blackberries. Around the DMV this is the season to hit up a pick your own or literally pick your own blackberry bush. I love blackberries for their sweetness and simplicity. They aren't hard to create something fun with. This bourbon cocktail is proof of that.

Toxic Sister

Bourbon Cocktail

Ingredients

6 Blackberries (muddled)

2 oz Bourbon

1/2 oz Cointreau

1 oz Orange Juice

Garnish: Blackberries

Recipe

In a cocktail shaker, muddle blackberries with the orange juice. It's about the juice of one half of an orange. Add ice. Pour bourbon and cointreau. Close and shake until cold. Double strain into an old fashioned glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with blackberries.

For me Summer cocktails are about relaxing and using summer flavors. This blackberry bourbon cocktail might look like a lot but it uses natural sugar to balance out the whiskey. It makes for a simple blend and something that will impress your guests without looking too much. It's also not overwhelmingly sweet so it won't turn off the person who swears they hate sweet drinks. This is balanced drink.
