Another day, another movie. Tonight I'm going Campy Horror with the House of Dark Shadows. This movie has been sitting in my DVR for way too long and it's time to delve into it and create something from it. This cocktail uses the sweetness of blood orange with the bitterness of a nice Aperol to create a combination Negroni/Old Fashioned. It plays on many influences but the main one is BLOOD.
House of Bloody Shadows
Blood orange old fashioned
Ingredients
2 oz Bourbon
3/4 oz Campari
1 oz Blood orange juice
1 Brown sugar cube
Three dashes of Angostura bitters
Garnish: orange slice
Recipe: In a mixing glass, pour bourbon, Campari, blood orange juice, and bitters. Give it a nice stir (a couple rounds around the glass until you see the blood orange color take over). Then in an old fashioned glass, muddle a brown sugar cube onto a blood orange slice. Place your ice cube on top. Then pour from the mixing glass. This is a sipping cocktail. It's perfect for when you want to elevate a standard cocktail but also don't want to do extra work. The bitterness of the Campari plays well with the sweetness of the Blood Orange juice. It's a great pairing that works well with salty snacks (think potato chips or nuts).
