Blood of my Kin: An Irish Whiskey Cocktail

For this whiskey wednesday, I'm throwing it out to my heritage. My grandmother was irish and while I don't have a love of irish whiskey, I do have the ability to drink it and remember the people that made me. This cocktail with a little blood orange juice makes irish whiskey easy to sip on and drink.

Blood of my Kin

Irish Whiskey Cocktail

Ingredients

1 1/2 oz Irish Whiskey

1/2 oz Cointreau

1 oz Blood Orange Juice

1/2 oz Simple Syrup

Optional: Top with Sparkling Water

Garnish: Blood Orange Peel

I like this cocktail for when you have a hearty snack or have had a long week. It's strong (hello whiskey) but also easy to sip so it doesn't overwhelm. It's sort of like the easy way to drink whiskey.

Recipe: In a cocktail shaker with ice, pour all ingredients. Close and shake until cold to the touch (about ten to fifteen seconds). Strain into an old fashioned glass with ice.
