Bested by You: Bourbon Cocktail

This cocktail is a stinger. Inspired by watching too many enemies to lovers tropes, I thought I need a powerful and balanced cocktail. Mixing the sweetness of blood orange with the savory mint and tart ginger beer, you hardly even taste the bourbon whiskey (I'm kidding of course).

Bourbon Cocktail

Ingredients

2 oz Bourbon

1 oz Blood Orange Juice

6 Mint Leaves

1/2 oz Simple Syrup

Top with ginger beer (about 1 to 1 1/2 oz)

Garnish: Blood Orange Peel and Mint leaves

Recipe

In a cocktail shaker, muddle mint leaves with simple syrup (you can dash this or do a 1/2 oz). You want to muddle so that you can really smell the powerful mint. Add ice. Then pour bourbon and blood orange juice. Close and shake until cold to the touch (about ten to fifteen seconds). Double strain into an old fashioned glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with mint leaves and a blood orange peel.

PRO Tip

It seems like a bit of work but this is one that impresses. It's also not a lot of alcohol. Especially in the summer, I like to lower my cocktail alcohol so that it doesn't hit as quickly. This cocktail is bold enough for your cocktail hour and not going to make you fall over. Summer cocktails need to be refreshing. This one is great for a little snack session or sitting and chilling. As always, stay hydrated.
