Vodka is an alcohol that looks like water and appeals to men and women. It's light so great for when you are having parties or when you want to drink but need to be light on the calories. I personally like flavored vodka more than I like straight vodka. Ketel One has a great bunch of botanical flavors which are great for summer cocktails. I also like cherry vodka when I want a simple cherry coke or a dessert martini.

When using a liquor that has floral or fragrant notes, look for compliments. I tend to go with fruit notes when I have floral but make sure to include citrus so it doesn't get overwhelmed. I want to be able to enjoy a combination of flavors and not one overwhelming flavor. Lemon is great for any vodka drink because it is a good balancer and pairs with the base notes of vodka. It has the ability to reduce sweetness while not overpowering or making it sour. Lime balances vodka well too but also can be a little too much if you use too much juice. You can easily go from refreshing to too tart with lime.
